CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Major Joe Riley is giving city employees with children in school two hours off on the first day of school this week.

Charleston County School District kicks off the '13-'14 school year on Wednesday, and parents are encouraged to attend the first day of school with their children, according to Cameron Pollard, Communications Coordinator for the city.

Mayor Riley said, "There is nothing more important than to celebrate our children's education. Showing our support helps children start the school year excited and eager to learn."
