CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston man is accused of strangling his girlfriend to death at her West Ashley apartment last week and then using her credit card to buy beer.

Charleston Police Department officers arrested David Mark Reagan, 55, last Friday at his St. Margaret Street home.  He is charged with murder.

Investigators were called to the victim's apartment at The Palms Apartments last Thursday around 12:30 p.m. Officers reportedly found the victim's body on the living room floor next to an empty purse.

An autopsy revealed the victim was strangled, and an arrest warrant affidavit states she was killed on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Court documents show Reagan was spotted by witnesses leaving his girlfriend's apartment around the time of the murder. Witnesses told police Reagan appeared heavily intoxicated.

Officers say several incidents of criminal domestic violence were reported in the past by the victim against Reagan.

Investigators say the victim's credit card was stolen and used several times after her death, and surveillance video shows Reagan using the card to buy beer at a convenience store on Friday.

Reagan is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center after being denied bond over the weekend.
