WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say they have arrested a 49-year-old woman accused of stabbing two employees at a mental health facility in West Ashley.

On Monday evening, the Charleston Police Department responded to the Charleston Mental Health Center on 2100 Charlie Hall Blvd. for an assault in progress.

Police spoke to a 58-year-old nurse who said she was stabbed by a patient at the center. Officers say the victim had a bandage on her left hand covering her two middle fingers, and a bandage on her upper arm.

The nurse said the patient, a 49-year-old woman, was dropped off by her daughter to receive a monthly shot for paranoid schizophrenia.

According to police, once the nurse sat down in the examination room to prepare the patient's medication, the patient jumped out of her seat and held a cutting instrument in her right hand, and began screaming.

Investigators say the patient then stabbed her case manager, a 34-year-old woman, in the shoulder.

According to investigators, at that time, the nurse attempted to stop the patient from further stabbing the case manager. Authorities say as the nurse was attempting to gain control of the cutting instrument, she grabbed the sharp end of the object and received cuts to her middle fingers and left hand.

The nurse said a small struggle started in which she lost control of the cutting instrument and was knocked to the ground where she was also stabbed in her upper left arm as she was trying to shield herself from the patient.

According to the victim, the patient continued to stab her on the shin of each leg leaving small lacerations.

Police say the patient then left the center.

Another employee at the center said she ran out after the woman, and saw her running toward the area of Charlie Hall Boulevard and Glenn McConnell Boulevard where she was seen flagging down a car and getting into the vehicle.

The vehicle was then seen traveling on Glenn McConnel towards Bees Ferry Road.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office then located the woman at her home in Hollywood.

An incident report states when investigators asked the woman if she stabbed any employees, the woman said,"Yes I stabbed them...both of them, and I would do it again!"

Officers said while the woman was in a patrol car, she said,"I am the princess...I am the realtor, I am the wife of the President, and they are not giving me AIDS!"

CPD officials say both nurses at the center received non-life threatening injuries and were treated.
