Report: Maintenance worker sexually assaults patient at retirement home

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 48-year-old man was in court on Friday accused of sexually assaulting a patient at a retirement home where he formerly worked as a maintenance worker.

Bond was set at $40,000 for Nathaniel J. Richardson who is charged with four counts of first-degree assault and criminal sexual conduct. Richardson was arrested on Thursday.

According to a court affidavit, between April and June of this year, Richardson entered the room of an 80-year-old patient at the Twin Oaks Villa Assisted Living in North Charleston and sexually assaulted the patient.

Authorities say Richardson, who was a hired maintenance worker at the center at the time, entered the victim's bedroom while she was asleep and placed his genitals on her lower body.

An affidavit states the victim then woke and kicked Richardson off her bed. Investigators say the victim then told her daughter and police.
