NC man blows .27 after wreck in West Ashley, police say

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police arrested a 65-year-old North Carolina man and charged him with driving under the influence following an accident that happened in West Ashley Thursday night.

Investigators say William Larry Watford, of Sylva, NC had a blood alcohol content of .27 following the wreck which happened around 6:15 p.m. Thursday . at the intersection of Bees Ferry Road and Grand Oaks Boulevard.

When officers arrived they were told by Charleston County sheriff's deputies that a strong odor of alcohol was emanating from Watford.

Officers then located the man, who was being treated by medics. After being treated, Watford told officers that he had one mixed drink and several beers before he got behind the wheel.

According to investigators, Watford was placed under arrest following a number of sobriety tests. Police say Watford was then transported to the Al Canon Detention Center where a breath sample from Watford indicated he had a blood alcohol level of .27.

The Charleston County Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.
