MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Police in Moncks Corner say they came so close Sunday to catching suspects who apparently are responsible for a rash of break-ins at homes.

Officers got to the scene on Dehay Street about 45 seconds after the break-in was reported, but the suspects were gone.

Investigators say about ten homes have been targeted this month.

According to police, the burglars are watching and springing into action if they see if no one is home.

In some cases, doors were kicked in and air conditioners were removed from windows to get inside.

Some residents are ready for them.

"I hope no one comes in mine, it would be kind of bad for them. If they come in, they won't come out," warned James Jensen, who lives on a street where one of the burglaries occurred.

Investigators believe two or three people are behind all of the burglaries.

"They're going in there and they're ransacking the homes," said Moncks Corner Police Lt. Michael Roach.

Cops say the bad guys are going for the quick and easy stuff, computers, jewelry and cash.

At one home, they broke into someone's garage and stole steaks and chicken.

Lou Shipley lives right next door to one of the victims.

Shipley says her neighbors walked her to her house when she got home from church yesterday to make sure no one was inside.

"I did not notice the police cars that were parked next door, but that was a scary feeling," Shipley said.

"Boy, I'm scared because I got two granddaughters here, I'm scared," said Paula Frazier, who lives next door to one of the burglary victims.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity in the neighborhoods is being asked to call Moncks Corner Police.
