Deputies arrest man suspected of burglarizing Beaufort Co. schools

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of burglarizing an elementary and middle school in Beaufort County.

Officials with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office say Cody Auvil Perkins of Beaufort was arrested in Jasper County and was transferred to the Beaufort County Detention Center Wednesday afternoon.

Perkins is suspected of breaking into the Lady's Island Middle School on Sept. 21, and the Coosa Elementary School on Sept. 22.

An incident report states Perkins and another unidentified male were captured on surveillance video breaking into the elementary school. According to investigators, once inside, the men broke into a vending machine and cash register in the cafeteria and stole money.

The sheriff's office says both cases remain active as investigators work to identify additional suspects.
