MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mt. Pleasant police say one of their officer's cruisers was struck on the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on Monday afternoon while he was assisting a disabled motorist.

The four-car wreck shut down two southbound lanes around 2:15 p.m.  According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, it was reopened around 3:45 p.m.

Sergeant Chris Helms said two cruisers were dispatched to the area after a motorist's vehicle broke down in the far-left lane on the bridge.  While they were on scene, one of the cruisers was rear-ended by a woman driving a burgundy Toyota Scion.

Helms said the officer was inside his cruiser when it was struck, and he did not suffer any serious injuries.

No one was taken to the hospital.  The wreck remains under investigation.
