DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A St. George couple were arrested after police say a 15-month-old girl suffered a skull fracture after falling from a bed.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office arrested 27-year-old Michael Hunt and 29-year-old Patricia Minus on Monday and charged them with unlawful neglect of a child. Both were given a $50,000 bond on Tuesday.

On the morning of Sept. 22, a deputy made contact with MUSC in reference to a non-accidental trauma to a female child.

Hospital officials say the child was brought in by EMS at 9:40 p.m. on Sept. 21 with trauma to the head due to a fall.

Authorities say between Sept. 20 and 21, Minus failed to check on the welfare of the victim after she had fallen from Minus' bed. According to investigators, Minus left the home at 1 p.m. to go to work and failed to check to see if the victim was responsive, after the victim had not awaken that morning.

An affidavit states the victim experienced a violent "shaking-whiplash injury and a forceful direct impact against a hard surface," which resulted in a skull fracture.

Court records state Hunt waited two hours before calling EMS after finding the victim unresponsive.
