Lowcountry to participate in 'ShakeOut' earthquake drill

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A number of schools and businesses throughout the Lowcountry will participate in an world-wide earthquake drill Thursday as part of Earthquake Awareness Week.
The Great Southeast ShakeOut is scheduled for Thursday at 10:17 a.m. The event will teach people how to "Drop, Cover and Hold On" in the event of an earthquake.
More than 242,000 people in the state are registered to participate in the drill.
A release from the fire department states 11 earthquakes have been confirmed in South Carolina this year. Geologists at the College of Charleston say the state experiences 10 to 20 earthquakes every year.
