GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - A suspect wanted for the murder of a convenience store clerk whose body was found in a Goose Creek park last month has been captured in California, authorities say.

According to the Goose Creek Police Department, 24-year-old Stephon Johnson was taken into custody Wednesday morning by U.S. Marshals in Lancaster, California.

Johnson was wanted by GCPD on a murder charge for the fatal shooting of 40-year-old William Kuhn.

Incident reports state Kuhn's body was found by children near a playground at Dogwood Park on September 18. Kuhn died from a gunshot wound to the heart, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

Family members said they believed Kuhn, a convenience store clerk, was robbed before the murder. They say Kuhn had recently moved to the Lowcountry from Ohio.

Johnson is being held in Los Angeles County, pending extradition proceedings.
