BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators are searching for a man who attacked a woman and stole her car on St. Helena Island Wednesday morning.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Lands End Road at 6 a.m. for a reported assault. When deputies arrived they found a 30-year-old woman bleeding from a cut to her head.

The victim told investigators she was assaulted by a man after dropping her child off at a family member's home.

According to the victim, the man approached from a nearby wooded area, pistol whipped her and took her purse and car keys. Authorities say the suspect then took off in the victim's vehicle, and was last seen heading towards Sea Island Parkway.

The victim was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment. The sheriff's office says her condition remains undisclosed.

The stolen vehicle is a burgundy 2008 Chevrolet Impala with an SC license plate 7264FN.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to contact either Investigator Cpl. B. Disbrow at (843) 255-3407.
