CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern Buccaneers will play 31 home games and make visits to South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina State as part of their 2014 baseball schedule, CSU head coach Stuart Lake announced on Wednesday.

The Buccaneers will open the season with four-straight weekend series at CSU Ballpark, all in non-conference action.

CSU welcomes Villanova on Feb. 14 for its season-opener to begin a three-game series with the Wildcats on Feb. 14-16. Weekend series with Siena (Feb. 22-23), Holy Cross (March 1-3), and Toledo (March 7-9) highlight a stretch in which the Bucs will play 15-of-17 games at CSU Ballpark to open the season.

"We are very excited to be able to host 31 home games this season at CSU Ballpark," Lake said Wednesday. "With the addition of lights, we will play more than 20 night games this season at CSU Ballpark."

Charleston Southern will play nine games against teams from last season's NCAA Tournament field, including road trips to South Carolina and N.C. State. Both were No. 1 seeds in regionals last year and the Wolfpack went on to reach the College World Series. The Bucs visit N.C. State on March 5 and South Carolina (March 12) a week later.

"Our schedule is a challenging and an exciting one for our players," Lake added. "Twenty-seven Big South games - road games at USC and Georgia - along with nine games against 2013 (NCAA) Regional teams will make for a challenging slate. We also have a number of series scheduled against our in-town and in-state rivals."

CSU will play a home-and-home with both of its in-town rivals, The Citadel and College of Charleston, as well as four single games against Savannah State, an NCAA Tournament team a season ago. The Bucs also have a home-and-home scheduled with USC Upstate and Wofford in non-conference action.

Big South Conference play opens March 14-16 as the Bucs travel to Farmville, Va. to face Longwood.

Radford, High Point, Gardner-Webb, and Winthrop all visit CSU Ballpark for Big South series, while the Bucs make trips to Longwood, Coastal Carolina, UNC Asheville, Presbyterian, and VMI in conference play.

Game times for the 2014 season will be released in January.
