CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Little babies along with their moms are having more than a mind, body and soul experience during a special class. They're singing, swaying and posing in a 45 minute long baby yoga class.

The workout is helping new moms like Kristin Sikorski ease back into her exercise routine. While the yoga moves are meant to build core strength and offer recovery for the mothers, it also encourages trust and bonding between a mom and her baby.

"It offers you a way to get out of the house, get moving, meet and talk to new moms that are experiencing some of the same things that you are," says Laura Denino of Yoga House.

Sikorski has been brining 9-month-old Brody to class since he was only 8-weeks-old.

"Yoga makes you have a moment and be in the moment it allows us to really have time together and focus on each other," Sikorski said.

For Shelly Gottschling and 7 and a half month old Holden, it's been a way to connect with others. Gottschling moved to the area a few months ago and the yoga class has helped her make new friends.

Baby yoga workouts are full of moves and poses that keep babies stimulated. Something Denino says makes that afternoon nap a much easier transition for both baby and mom.

Denino says baby yoga is catching on here, but it's especially popular on the West Coast.
