Debi Chard presented with statewide honor for 'Debi's Kids'

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - For 20 years now, Debi's Kids has been bringing toys and joy to the lives of Lowcountry kids on Christmas morning.

On Wednesday in Columbia, Live 5 News' Debi Chard was honored for heading up one of the best charities in the entire state of South Carolina.

South Carolina Secretary of State Mark Hammond presented Debi with her statewide honor.

Her Debi`s Kids campaign was recognized as one of the best charities in the state.

"It's a wonderful organization," Hammond said."If you have money to contribute over the holiday season, please take a look at this organization."

"It was a wonderful surprise and an honor to be able to say that we are angels in this community. Giving back," said Rita Scott vice president and general manager of Live 5 News.

Debi gave credit to the people of the Lowcountry for helping make Debi's Kids such a big success.

"It's such an honor to be recognized and the trust factor is important and this recognizes the fact that the community does trust the organization to help families in need," Chard said.
