Good Samaritan pulls woman out of car fire

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Emergency officials say a woman was rescued by a Good Samaritan after her vehicle crashed and caught on fire Sunday afternoon.

Officials with Colleton County Fire and Rescue say an SUV flipped over multiple times after striking a guard rail on I-95 near mile marker 41.

The SUV then landed upright on the bridge and caught on fire. Authorities say the driver, a 48-year-old woman from Savannah, could not get out of the vehicle.

According to emergency officials, a Good Samaritan was able to force the driver's door open and take the woman out of the burning SUV.

Authorities say the woman's injuries were minor and she was not transported to the hospital. The woman reported that she may have fallen asleep before leaving the roadway.

Rescue officials say another accident involving five other vehicles added to the congestion on the highway.
