Tornado watch in effect for the Lowcountry until 1 a.m.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A tornado watch is in effect for the Lowcountry and surrounding areas until 1 a.m.

Areas include Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton,Dorchester, Hampton, and Jasper counties.

A tornado watch is issued when weather conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that are capable of producing tornadoes.

A powerful storm system is expected to pass though with heavy rainfall, gusty winds and isolated tornadoes possible now though the early morning hours.

A flood advisory has since expired for downtown Charleston, Goose Creek and Summerville.
