Police: Fatal shooting victim's mother speaks to suspects in court
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man in North Charleston over the weekend.
North Charleston police say Destil Cordew and Michael Ferguson have been charged with murder and attempted murder. Cordew has also been charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Both suspects were arrested Monday night.
The family of the victim, Cedric James, was in court Tuesday where they came face to face with their loved ones accused killers. James was found shot to death near a dumpster in the area of Dorsey and Dorchester roads on Sunday night.
During Tuesday's hearing, the victim's mother spoke to Cordew.
"I don't know what to say and Cedric is dead," James' mother said.
Both men are also charged with attempted murder. North Charleston police say a second man was inside of a vehicle, along with James, before the shots were fire.
That second man suffered a gunshot wound, and was driven to the hospital. First responders found two people when they arrived at the shooting scene on Sunday. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another, who was shot in the arm, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
Witnesses reported seeing several males fleeing the area shortly after hearing gun fire.
