NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Three-time NASCAR points champion Tony Stewart was in the Lowcountry on Thursday night visiting with fans and signing autographs for a couple hours at JD Byriders in North Charleston.

Stewart, who's recovering from a broken leg he suffered in a dirt track race over the Summer, said his recovery is going well, but he is anxious to get back on the race track.

"Everything is healing well" Stewart said. "the bones are healing slowly but they aren't going to let me back into a car until the day before the shootout. But mentally I'm ready to go."

Smoke also said the chance to meet with fans is always fun but his injury has made people more excited to send him well wishes.

"Everybody's been wishing me well and want me to get back going so it's nice to see how excited everyone is."
