CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators are on the lookout for the people responsible for breaking into two West Ashley stores Monday night and stealing nearly 20 pounds of treats.

At 9:15 p.m. on Monday, a Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to the Market Street Munchies on Ashley River Road for an alarm activation. While enroute to the call, the deputy was told of another alarm activation at the nearby Euro Foods also located on Ashley River Road.

When the officer arrived at Market Street Munchies, he reported that the front glass door of the business had been broken. A report states the counter had been ransacked and the cash register was pried open.

An employee told investigators that only change and silver dollars were in the register.

According to store officials, someone stole 8 pounds of Benne Wafers, 8 pounds of pralines and a pound of fried peanuts. Police say the goods were stolen from a display case near the counter area.

"Very disgusted...very determined to shut down and move out of here. That's how we feel," said Sam Shaw with Market Street Munchies."It's the third time it's happened in the this location in the last five years."

Authorities say someone also broke into the Euro Foods on Ashley River Road. Store officials say money was stolen from the business.

Officials say both businesses were broken into the same way.

No suspect's are in custody at this time, and the investigating is on-going. If you have any information you are asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
