Two hospitalized following accident involving log truck, jeep

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say two people were transported to the hospital following a Monday night accident involving a log truck and Jeep in Colleton County.

Officials with the Colleton County Fire-Rescue Department say the two vehicle collision happened around 6:42 p.m. when a log truck attempted to cross ACE Basin Parkway at Wood Road.

A report states a Jeep Cherokee tried to avoid the truck, but collided with it at a high rate of speed, striking the rear wheels of the trailer.

Emergency officials say the Jeep suffered heavy damage and trapped both occupants who suffered multiple traumatic injuries.

According to responders at the scene, emergency crews were able to force open the driver's door with hand tools and free the driver.

Both of the occupants in the Jeep were transported by via helicopter to the Medical University of South Carolina. The driver of the log truck did not suffer any injuries.

Officials with Colleton County's emergency department says the Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
