Sheriff's office releases surveillance pictures of Burger King armed robbery
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office have released surveillance pictures of an armed robbery at a Johns Island Burger King Wednesday night.
According to the sheriff's office, an employee was closing up the restaurant on 3579 Savannah Hwy with the night crew when the suspect entered the store.
The suspect then shouted for no one to move, and ran towards the counter. Police say the suspect jumped the counter and put a gun to one of the employee's head, telling her to open the cash register.
According to police, he also told the victim to open the safe, and put all the cash in a bag. The suspect then ran out of the business.
Charleston County sheriff's deputies say the K-9 Unit responded to try to track the suspect, but he was able to flee the scene on foot.
Witnesses described the suspect as a black male, 5'6" to 5'8" tall, wearing a dark mask, black hoodie, green pants and carrying a red bag.
While responding to the armed robbery call, a sheriff's deputy was involved in an automobile accident while traveling to the scene. The deputy was transported to MUSC. Shortly after, a deputy supervisor was involved in a second accident while responding to the first accident. The deputy supervisor was not injured.
