Cops: Group looking to fight man take off after girlfriend fires gun
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say a group of people who were looking to fight a man were driven off after the victim's girlfriend took out her gun and fired several rounds during a shootout outside a North Charleston home.
On Tuesday morning, North Charleston police officers responded to a home on Popperdam Creek Drive in reference to gunshots being fired.
The 51-year-old victim said a group of people came to his home and fired several gunshots into his front window.
According to the victim, the suspects came to his home to fight his 21-year-old son.
Police say the victim's son was outside with his 24-year-old girlfriend arguing on the phone with his baby's mother about a daycare for their child. Police say a short time later, a vehicle pulled up to the front of the house.
A police report states several male subjects then jumped out of the car, and one of the suspects began to fire at the victim's son and girlfriend.
According to investigators, after the shooting started, the girlfriend ran inside, grabbed her gun and fired her weapon.
Police say when they asked where the gun was, the woman said she hid the weapon out of fear of getting into trouble.
The woman's boyfriend then showed officers the location of the gun which was underneath a shed.
According to police, officers found several rounds had penetrated the living room wall, kitchen wall and laundry room wall.
Investigators arrested 21-year-old Alonzo Neil Brown on Wednesday in connection to the incident and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
