MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Mount Pleasant Police Department say they have been receiving more reports of phone scam attempts.

Victims told police that they received phone calls from out-of-state numbers.

The caller identifies themselves as member of a government agency, and tells the victim that they owe back taxes from a few years ago and there is warrant out for their arrest.

A police report states the victim is then transferred to another person so they may be able to pay over the phone or risk being arrested.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department has released the following tips:

1. Confirm who you are talking to is who they say they are.
2. Never give out sensitive information like bank account number, credit card number, social security number, etc. over the phone.
3. Always ask for confirmation in writing of any type of interaction you are having over the phone.

If you have any questions you are asked to call the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
