JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a home invasion that resulted in the shooting death of a Johns Island woman, according to authorities.

Carlton Solomon was arrested Friday and charged with murder, kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. He was denied bond Saturday morning.

According to a release, deputies were called out to a home in the 3700 block of Greenland Road on Saturday, January 11 around 2:38 a.m. in reference to a home invasion.

A victim at the scene told officers three males kicked in the back door of his residence and assaulted him and a female victim, identified as 27-year-old Donetta Heyward.

While the male victim was being assaulted by one of the suspects, deputies say Heyward was taken outside by the other suspects and shot. The suspects then fled the scene.

Officers say the Heyward was transported to MUSC, where she was later pronounced dead.

Solomon was previously charged with attempted murder and carjacking in September 2012. In that incident, Solomon was accused of stabbing a man twice in the chest with an unknown weapon.

Deputies say prior to the home invasion, a late model green four door Honda was seen in the area, and was also seen leaving shortly after the gunshots were heard.

Authorities say this is still an on-going investigation.
