GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say skeletal remains found in the Upstate on Thursday appear to be that of a male body.

Investigators in the Lowcountry say they have been monitoring the discovery of the remains that were discovered about six miles outside of Traveler's Rest in connection to the disappearance of Gayle McCaffrey who has not been seen since March 2012.

According to Charleston County deputies, Robert McCaffrey was pulled over for speeding in Traveler's Rest, the same day she was reported missing.

Officials consider the missing woman's husband, Robert McCaffrey, the prime suspect in her murder.

On Thursday, emergency dispatchers in Greenville County received a call  from someone who discovered bones in a wooded area off Groce Road and Blackberry Valley Roads.

Investigators say the skeletal remains have been in the location for an undetermined amount of time.
