ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Two Orangeburg men are behind bars after deputies found drugs underneath a car's hood during a traffic stop.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office charged 24-year-old Fredrick A. Shuler and 24-year-old Edward Ervin Hamilton with drug dealing charges.

On Saturday night, deputies were patrolling the Cordova area when they saw a white Chevy vehicle swerving on Terrace Road, and initiated a traffic stop.

"As the officers approached the vehicle, they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle," Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said."The passenger, Edward Ervin Hamilton, told the officers he had marijuana in his pockets. The driver, Frederick Akeem Shuler, told officers he did not have any narcotics."

According to the sheriff's office, a K-9 unit was deployed and alerted deputies to the driver's side of the vehicle's hood.

Deputies reported locating a plastic container with marijuana inside and a plastic scale under the vehicle's hood.

"We are working diligently to make this county safer and running drug dealers out of town is one way we can do that," Ravenell said.
