SCHP: One dead following car accident near Ridgeville on Highway 78

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a driver who was transported to the hospital following an accident near Ridgeville on Friday died of her injuries.
The Dorchester County Coroner's Office has identified the driver as 73-year-old Mary Willingham Carter of St. George.
The accident happened at 11:35 a.m. in the area of Highway 78 and Highway 178.
According to SCHP officials, the driver was traveling on Highway 178 when the car ran off the road and struck a tree.
Witnesses on scene say crews airlifted Carter from the scene.
Carter later died at the hospital due to the injuries sustained in the crash.
