Indiana man accused of groping woman in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say officers arrested a 31-year-old Indiana man accused of groping a woman in downtown Charleston.

The Charleston Police Department charged Michael J. Andrews of New Palestine, Ind. with second-degree assault and battery by mob.

Authorities say at 11:25 a.m. on Friday, officers spoke to a 20-year-old woman who said she had just been groped by Andrews.

According to the victim, she was walking on Coming Street at 11:15 a.m. and saw Andrews walking towards her.

A police report states Andrews groped the woman with his left hand, and walked away.

Police say officers then detained a man who matched the description of the suspect at Duncan and Pitt streets.

According to investigators, the victim identified Andrews as the man who groped her.
