Cops: Duo pepper sprayed Walmart employees, stole money cart

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Summerville police are investigating after several Walmart employees were hit with pepper spray during a money cart heist early Friday morning.

Police responded to Walmart on North Main Street around 12:15 a.m. for a reported robbery. Upon arrival, officers saw several people standing outside of Walmart coughing and wheezing, and many more inside covering their faces while coughing.

An employee told police she had just placed money from a register into their money cart when a female suspect tried to pull the cart away from her. The suspect then "drop kicked" the employee, and ran towards the exit while pulling the cart.

At that time, the report states a second suspect followed behind the money cart pepper spraying everyone that was nearby.

Witnesses say the two suspects loaded the money cart into the truck bed of a gray or silver four-door Dodge Ram that was parked in front of the store. The suspects then took a right on Highway 17A and drove towards I-26.

Another witness told police they saw a male suspect who was sitting in the parked truck outside the store run inside, and return shortly after with a female suspect pushing a cart.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance video of the incident.
