Destroyed back porch at Gilligan's have owners thankful

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - An early morning fire destroyed the back porch of Gilligan's Seafood Restaurant on John's Island Tuesday morning. The owners of the restaurant say they're thankful for the quick responses of the fire crews.

Units from the St. Andrew's Fired Department, City of Charleston Fire Department and St. John's Fire Department responded to the blaze just after 1:30 a.m. It took crews about 30 minutes to put out the fire.

Gilligan's Supervisor Tasha Eady said, "This is just a hiccup." She added the restaurant will probably be closed for 4-6 weeks while the damages are repaired.

St. Andrew's Fire Marshal Nathan Murtaugh said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

He said the damage is mainly on the backside of the building, the coolers are a complete loss and there is some smoke and water damage to the inside.
