NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say two teenagers are behind bars after a maintenance man was attacked and shot at in North Charleston.

The North Charleston Police Department charged 17-year-old Dartez Ferguson with second-degree assault and battery by mob. Police also charged 18-year-old Laquan Damon Bryan with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

On Wednesday night, police responded to an apartment complex on Dorchester Road for a report of shots fired.

The apartment manager said two of her maintenance men were shot at by two men during an altercation in the parking lot.

The victims said they were clearing an apartment when they heard people arguing. When the victims walked outside, they saw the suspects arguing with a group of women at the back of an apartment, police say.

According to police, the victims calmly asked the suspects to leave the property.

Authorities say as the suspects were leaving, one of the victims walked up behind the suspects' Jeep and attempted to get the tag number of the vehicle.

Investigators say one of the suspects then got out, confronted the victim and asked him what he was doing.

A police report states the victim was suddenly hit in the in the left side of his eye by the other suspect who pulled a gun and fired three to four shots at the victim who had fallen backwards into a ditch.

Authorities say the other victim approached the suspect and knocked the suspect backwards.

According to police, the suspects then jumped back in the Jeep and drove off.  Authorities later located the vehicle and arrested the suspects.
