BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Marine experts say it's not clear why three bottlenose dolphins have been found dead in Beaufort County waters in a week.
The third was found Sunday by Beaufort resident Susan Trogdon, who told The Island Packet (http://bit.ly/1deH3Di) that she was paddling in the Harbour River when she saw the dolphin floating in the marsh grass.
She says she contact the S.C. Department of Natural Resources about the dolphin, which had a shallow, foot-long scrape on its side.
Another dead dolphin was found Thursday in the May River in Bluffton. Marine biologist Jessica Conway says it's too soon to say what killed these dolphins.
A dolphin that appeared to be older also washed ashore March 17 on Hilton Head Island and died before marine biologists could reach it.
