CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The City of Charleston Friday announced the schedule of road closures related to the annual Bridge Run scheduled for Saturday, April 5. The closures begin the day before the race as increased security measures will be put into place.
The schedule is as follows:
Hampton Park will close at 11 a.m. to all entrances until 7 p.m.
George Street between Meeting and Anson Streets will be closed at 8 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5.
Meeting Street between George and Wentworth Streets will close at 10 p.m. The northbound lane of Meeting Street from George to Calhoun Streets will remain open, but the southbound lane of Meeting Street from George to Calhoun Streets will be closed for traffic. Traffic will be re-opened on Saturday following the finish line cleanup. Organizers expect the street to reopen around 2 p.m. Saturday
Calhoun Street between Meeting to Anson Streets will be closed to all traffic from 12 a.m. until 1 p.m. Residential traffic is the only traffic that will be allowed until 4:30 a.m. and then the road will be closed entirely.
Calhoun Street between King and East Bay Streets will be closed from 4:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until the police department reopens the road.
George Street from East Bay to Anson Streets will close from 5 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Anson Street from Calhoun to Laurens Streets will close from 4:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Alexander Street from Charlotte to George Streets will close from 5 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Charlotte Street from Elizabeth to Meeting Streets will also close from 5 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Henrietta Street from Elizabeth to Meeting Streets will also close from 5 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Meeting Street from John to Wentworth will close at 4:30 a.m. with early opening happening following the race participants leaving the route and the route being cleaned. Wentworth and Society Streets will flow until 7 a.m. unless pedestrian traffic forces an early closure.
The Ravenel Bridge Wonderway Lane will be closed by police at 6:30 a.m. to clear the bridge of pedestrian traffic until the bridge is reopened after the race.
The Ravenel Bridge and the entire race route will close at 7 a.m. Saturday morning until the participants are finished and the roadways are cleaned, which officials estimate will take until noon. The entire Ravenel Bridge will remain closed until all participants and support staff have cleared the bridge, barricades have been removed and any debris has been cleaned.
Traffic off King Street will be rerouted onto St. Philip Street from Spring and Beaufain Streets. Traffic on Cannon Street will turn at St. Philip and flow north or south.
