Investigators with the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office say a man who was found dead in Givhans on Friday was discovered by a woman who was planning on moving onto the property.
Authorities say a 37-year-old woman was checking on a couch at a shed on Highway 61 when she discovered the body of 24-year-old Drew Mitsuo Shumway. Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said Shumway died from a single penetrating gunshot wound to the back of his head, and listed the death as a homicide.
Authorities say after the woman discovered the body, she left the property and called 911. According to the sheriff's office, the woman said the property is owned by her cousin, and she had been planning to move onto the property in the near future.
The woman also told investigators that several nights before, she noticed an unknown type of vehicle on the property.
The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation.
