ISLE OF PALMS, SC (WCSC) - The Coast Guard says the owner of a kite board that washed ashore claimed the board Saturday, ending speculation of a missing kite boarder off the Isle of Palms.
Coast Guard crew members aboard a rescue boat from Station Charleston and a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Ga., searched for a possible missing person as a precaution after the board washed ashore Friday.
Authorities released photos of the board, hoping the public would help identify its owner.
Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center were notified of the situation by Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch. The report stated the kite surfboard was located in the vicinity of 14th Avenue, in Isle of Palms.
Crews from Charleston County Fire Department and Isle of Palms Fire Department also assisted in the search.
