DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Dorchester County Sheriff's deputies say a man shot his girlfriend, and then killed himself early Saturday morning in Ladson.

The Dorchester County coroner identified the man as 25-year-old Douglas Moses. According to the coroner, Moses died from a single gun shot wound to the head. The cause of death was ruled a suicide.

A spokesman from the South Carolina Highway patrol said Moses was an employee, and was attending the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia.

Lieutenant Kelly Hughes of the State Highway Patrol confirmed Moses began training in January, and was scheduled to graduate from the Academy in May.

According to officials, the shooting happened around 2:00 am on Mickler Drive after a standoff with authorities.  A report from the coroner said the 25-year-old Moses had been drinking.

Captain Tony Phinney of the sheriff's office says deputies responded to the area after receiving a 911 call from a woman who said shots were fired at her.

Authorities say the woman ran to a neighbor's house for help following the shooting.

Officials say the woman was shot twice in the arm, and was transported to MUSC.  She is expected to recover.

Several the agencies are involved in the investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday morning to confirm the cause of death.
