CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The young boy who drowned in a Hollywood pond Monday night was a seventh grader at the Lowcountry Leadership Charter School.

The coroner's office says 13-year-old Genesis Holmes drowned while swimming with a friend.

The school is making grief counselors available and has postponed state testing scheduled for Tuesday, according to a message posted on its website Tuesday. Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say Holmes' body was recovered from a pond at a property in Hollywood Monday evening.

According to CCSO officials, deputies and the dive team responded to 8001 Hwy 162 in reference to a missing male boy in a pond.

Major Eric Watson with the sheriff's office says when deputies arrived, they were told that two male juveniles were swimming in a pond, and one of the boys never came out and was missing. The other boy then called for help.

Watson said the dive team entered the pond and recovered the body of Holmes. The sheriff's office says the other juvenile who called for help was examined by medical personnel and was released.

Officials with the sheriff's office say the incident is an active death investigation.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office identified Holmes and confirmed drowning was the cause of death.
