COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a fire destroyed a club and damaged a home in Colleton County early Sunday morning.

Officials with the Colleton County Fire and Rescue Department say emergency crews responded to Brandy's Social Club on 26409 Augusta Hwy for a reported fire around 4:54 a.m.

First responders reported that the building had already been destroyed and was almost burned out. According to a report, a block enclosure was all that remained of the building.

In addition, authorities reported that a single story home located 20 feet away from the fire suffered minor exterior damage.

According to CCFR officials, a man was traveling to work when he noticed the fire and called 911. The owner told investigators that his business closed a little after midnight.

A patron also reported that he picked up his car around 3 a.m. and did not notice anything wrong.

Firefighters reported that the doors of the club were still padlocked when they arrived. Emergency crews were on scene for a little over four hours.

CCFR officials say the building had been known for the last several decades as the Edisto Tackle Shop and most recently operated as Brandy's Social Club.

Emergency officials say the Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
