DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Scout Boats Inc., a sport fishing boat manufacturer, announced Tuesday plans to expand its facility in Dorchester County, an investment that is expected to create 300 jobs.

Company officials say the 182,000-square-foot facility in Summerville will add on another 30,000-square-feet in order to build composite and component parts for its new boats. The addition will cost roughly $2.5 million, while adding around 300 jobs.

"Scout Boats is very proud that here in Summerville, S.C. are some of the most skilled craftsmen in the world of recreational boat building," said Steve Potts, President and CEO of Scout Boats Inc.

Governor Nikki Haley applauded the company's decision to expand in Dorchester County.

"Scout Boats is a great example of South Carolina-grown entrepreneurship. They began here in our state, and they continue to grow and strengthen our economy," Haley said.

No word at this time on when construction is expected to be completed.
