Authorities arrest suspect in James Island shooting

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Investigators with the Charleston Police Department have arrested a man suspected of a shooting on James Island.

Police arrested 27-year-old Michael McNeil of Secessionville Road and charged him with first-degree assault and battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

McNeil was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

According to CPD officials, McNeil was taken into custody on Dunlap Court in North Charleston by officers from the Charleston Police Department, U.S. Marshals Task Force and the North Charleston Police Department Intelligence Led Policing Unit.

Charleston police say the victim in the shooting was shot in his right leg about 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday while arguing with a man at his home on Secessionville Road.

Police say the victim was taken to MUSC with non-life threatening injuries.
