MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - A Moncks Corner elementary school went on administrative lockdown briefly Wednesday morning after someone inside the school reported what appeared to be men with weapons outside.
According to Berkeley County Sheriff's spokesperson Dan Moon, someone inside H.E. Bonner Elementary School spotted several unfamiliar men on or near school grounds and notified the sheriff's department.
Berkeley County deputies responded and identified the men as land surveyors who did not have weapons, Moon said.
"It's better safe than sorry," Moon said of the false alarm.
Berkeley County School District spokesperson Susan Haire said the lockdown lasted for less than a half-hour and was taken as a precautionary measure. Parents were notified that teaching was continuing and were again notified when the lockdown was over, Haire said.
