Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say a subject who reportedly made threats to harm people at a James Island church has surrendered.

Maj. Eric Watson with the sheriff's office says the subject surrendered at a home on Sea Aire Drive at 8 p.m., and will be transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation.

Deputies, negotiators, a mobile crisis unit and SWAT responded to the incident on the 1200 block of Sea Aire Drive Friday afternoon.

According to Watson, deputies responded to a  home for a report of a mental subject making threats to harm people at a nearby church.

Authorities say nearby homes were evacuated as precautionary measure as authorities assessed the situation. Watson says a reverse 911 was also implemented to alert nearby residents.

CCSO says Sea Aire Drive was blocked off as crews dealt with the situation.
