CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -Firefighters have extinguished a fire at the rear of a building on King Street in downtown Charleston Monday evening.

Charleston Fire Department was called out to the 540 block of King Street around 5:08 p.m. after a report of smoke was seen in the area. When fire crews arrived at the scene they discovered a fire in the wall on the outside of the building.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the blaze and bring the fire under control around 5:20 p.m.

Crews shut down traffic on King Street in the vicinity of the fire from Spring to Mary Street.

Fire officials say the fire was contained to the wall on the side of the building. There was no smoke or fire damage to the interior of the building.
