Coroner identifies man who died of gunshot wound in St. Stephen

ST. STEPHEN, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified a 41-year-old man who died following a shooting at a trailer park in St. Stephen Wednesday morning.
Coroner Bill Salisbury says John David Morant from New York was pronounced dead at 12:01 p.m. on Wednesday. Salisbury says an autopsy will be conducted today with more information available later.
According to St. Stephen Police Chief John Waters, authorities were called out to a home in the 1000 block of Graham Street around 11 a.m. for reports of a shooting. Officers arrived to find a male victim shot in the back
Waters says the victim did not cooperate with authorities, and died while on the way to the hospital. No information on a possible suspect is available at this time.
Salisbury said he was contacted around 12:05 p.m. to respond to Roper Berkeley ER in Moncks Corner where Morant was identified as the victim.
The death is being investigated by the coroner's office, St. Stephen police with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office assisting in the case.
