Campbell says he's excited to advance to runoff

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - Mike Campbell says he's excited about being in the GOP runoff for lieutenant governor.

The son of the late Gov. Carroll Campbell Friday said Friday that primary foe Pat McKinney ran an outstanding campaign. McKinney dropped out of the race Thursday.

Former Attorney General Henry McMaster had a decisive lead in Tuesday's four-way primary, with 44 percent of the vote.

Both McKinney and Campbell had roughly 24 percent of the vote, with McKinney slightly in the lead. An automatic recount was expected to determine who advanced to the June 24 runoff, but McKinney's withdrawal made that unnecessary.

Campbell says his platform focusing on seniors takes a realistic approach to the office.  The lieutenant governor's main duties are overseeing the state Office on Aging and presiding over the Senate.
