SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - Upstate investigators say "online novels" written by a man who is a person of interest in Nicole Goodlett's disappearance is increasing suspicion about his possible involvement.
Officials with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said on Friday that works of fiction by 32-year-old Jerald J. Howard were disturbing and "another piece of the puzzle" that adds to Howard's background.
Authorities say Howard was the last person to be seen with 28-year-old Nicole Goodlett, who investigators have been searching for since March. Last week, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said investigators believe she may be the victim of foul play in or around Berkeley County.
Howard is being sought by investigators with the Berkeley County and Spartanburg County sheriff’s offices for questioning.
Kevin Bobo with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office spoke on Friday about Howard's works and said, "It's just another piece of the puzzle that adds into his background. It's my understanding they're works of fiction, but from what I've been told, the content of them, some can consider disturbing."
On Howard’s website, there are links to several online novels, including “When No Means Yes,” and “One Life for One Night” and “You Opened Your Legs Before I Opened My Heart.”
In a YouTube video, Howard recites his poem entitled “Before He Opened His Heart,” an excerpt of which says, “He and every other man that she calls a dog, it’s not the games they play but the sex that is her fog … She says she wants love, but she succumbs to lust.”
Howard ,who is a Clemson grad and former Clemson football player, calls himself “author and poet” on his website, and says half of all the proceeds from the sales of his novels go toward breast cancer research.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about Goodlett or Howard’s whereabouts call CrimeStoppers at

Deputies said there are no active warrants against Howard at this time.
