Late night email to city officials calls Friday shooting 'possible suicide'

An email sent to Charleston City Council and other officials nearly two hours after a deadly shooting Friday referred to the incident as a "possible suicide."

In the email, obtained by Live 5 News' Harve Jacobs, Charleston Police spokesperson Charles Francis reported police were on the scene of a possible suicide that occurred at 10:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on North Romney Street.

The victim in the shooting was identified as 19-year-old Denzel "Jaba" Curnell by the Charleston Coroner's Office, who reported Curnell died of a single gunshot wound. The manner of death, according to the coroner's office, was still under investigation.
