Riverland Drive remains closed following gas leak
JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch confirms traffic is still blocked off on Riverland Drive after an early morning gas leak in James Island.
Authorities say the gas leak was reported Thursday morning in the area of Riverland Drive and Grimball Road. The leak was secured at 7:45 a.m., according to SCE&G officials.
Although fire and EMS have left the scene, police are still in the area blocking off access to Riverland Drive.
Dispatch says authorities are advising residents near that area to stay indoors and to have no open flame at this time. If you are in the area and smell gas, you are asked to call 911. Traffic is being detoured from both George L. Griffith Boulevard and Riverland Drive.
