Source: Deadly shooting in Hanahan was in retaliation for North Charleston murder

HANAHAN, SC - A source tells Live 5 News this morning's deadly shooting in a Hanahan neighborhood, was in retaliation for a murder in North Charleston.

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 19-year old Terrence Kendall McNeil of North Charleston.

Hanahan Police say McNeil was shot in his car just before 4:30 this morning near the intersection of East Recess Road and Old Point Road. Moments later, the car crashed into a house on East Recess.

According to the coroner's office McNeil died from gunshot wounds to the head and his death as been ruled a homicide.

The owners of the home say they were asleep when the car drove into their house, near the garage.

Neighbor Rob Roe looked outside his window and ran to the car to help.

He had no idea the man behind the wheel had been shot.

"Thought I was going out to help somebody and next thing you know the neighborhood's wondering, there's somebody on the run with a gun. Obviously somebody shot him," Roe said.

A North Charleston Police spokesman says he doesn't know if there is a connection between the Hanahan shooting and a murder in their jurisdiction.

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office and the Hanahan Police Department are continuing to investigate this crime.
